Sea Diallo

Born on July 26, 1958 in Thies Senegal, Séa Diallo is one of the alumni of the Village des Arts (Dakar) where he has resided since its creation. Séa is a versatile artist and his work revolves around image and text (photography, sculpture, ceramics, engraving, painting and poetry) with a permanent concern for aesthetic dialogue of the media.

Since childhood, Séa has drawn and painted on every image and situation seen by his eyes or entertained within his mind. As a self-taught diverse artist, Séa was 30 years old when he decided to devote himself exclusively to painting and leading painting workshops for children and adults.

As a dedicated proponent for artistic freedom, Séa accepts no aesthetic restrictions. From Séa’s perspective In art, the domain of freedom for excellence cannot accept forbidden meanings or single meanings: line, color, shape, composition, support, etc. are unrestrictive in it’s intended format and meaning. Séa enjoys operating in an artistic space without restriction.

Painter-poet, Séa sings hymns to women, to the sea, to peace, to love, to justice, to friendship. When he emerges as an Artist-activist, Séa uncompromisingly denounces ridicule, injustice and the honor of massacres and human stupidities.

Art is for Séa what religion is for the priest. A lifestyle which encompasses a commitment to excellence through prayer and meditation at the core of his being; facilitating his perpetual quest for pleasure, discovery, spirituality and dreams!

Séa Diallo has produced and participated in 4 individual exhibitions in Senegal and France since 1981 and approximately forty group exhibitions in Senegal, France, Sweden and Cape Verde. Séa has also participated in various international animation film creation courses, sculpture, scenography and web art.
